Zenith

A very clever decision of the businessman Georges Favre-Jacot was made in 1865 at the beginning of the history of the company of Zenith. The vision of the business man, who at the time was only 22, was the grand idea to organise the small structured watch making businesses in his region. He offered under the roof of his factory, far better working conditions than the small work shops, whose staff often had to work mostly in dim light and without heating. The new working conditions spurned the watchmakers on to achieving maximum output. In a memorable night he created a watch that to him seemed more perfect than all those ever made before. Full of pride he opened the doors to his factory in the middle of the night, and looked up to the starry sky for perhaps a little more inspiration for completing his work: And the wheels and the pivots in his watches seemed as just as complex as the system of stars. And so he decided to name his new edition and his the newly formed company, after the highest point of the universe. The manufacturer experienced a boom trading under the name of Zenith: soon 2,000 workers were employed by the company, and one innovation followed the next. More than 1,500 awards were presented to Zenith for the development of many designs of watches with a lot more than 50 calibres. This is a tradition, which the company still kept after being taken over by LVMH.
